We sat down with Mark to learn more about his background, what inspires him, and what he’s looking forward to in his new role.
Let’s get to know him…
What’s your job title?
Senior Inspection Engineer / Team Lead (Petroineos Terminal contract)
What led you to this career?
A love of the variety and challenge of working in Inspection, especially when problems are found that need solved quickly.
What does your job role involve?
Keeping us on the right side of our legal (PSSR) obligations mostly. I do this by making sure we inspect pressure equipment before the due date, issue and approve inspection reports within 28 days, process postponement requests and generally ensure we make recommendations / repair options, etc., independently and impartially from the operators.
What is the most exciting part of your job/what are you looking forward to in your new role?
As above, problems will be found and it’s dealing with those problems that I look forward to. Finding the best possible solution that keeps everyone happy.
What accomplishment have you made in your career so far that you are proud of?
I stood my ground, against some significant pressure, knowing it would delay an entire drilling crew offshore by two days. The subsequent inspection revealed heavy CUI with the insulation being the only thing holding the piping together. Had the drilling crew proceeded, we would have dumped untold amounts of oily drilling mud into the sea with the potential of huge fines, extended delays and significant bad publicity.
Who inspires you and why?
It constantly changes depending on the situation, but Karen Darke is normally up there. Her drive and focus to achieve goals, regardless of the adversity in her way shows that anything is possible if you are willing to work hard enough.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I have three kids and a dog so outside of working I am still busy. When I do get the time, it is the mountains and rugby that I enjoy the most, accompanied by one or more of the family.
Welcome to the team, Mark! We’re looking forward to the expertise and leadership you’ll bring.
