We’re delighted to welcome Lee Forsyth to the Sonomatic RAIS team!
Lee is a familiar face to many, having previously supported our QHSE activities as a consultant. We’re especially delighted to welcome him on a full-time basis and benefit even more from the experience, insight, and dedication he brings to the role. Based in our Aberdeen office, Lee will be travelling regularly to provide hands-on support across all locations, ensuring we continue to deliver the highest standards of quality, health, safety, and environmental performance.
We sat down with Lee to learn more about his background, what inspires him, and what he’s looking forward to in his new role.
Let’s get to know him…
What’s your job title?
QHSE Advisor
What led you to this career?
I first became interested in both health and safety and training when I ran OCTG Casing in Angola. This developed more whilst working as a project coordinator for an occupational health company and as a Technical instructor. Then, during a period as a facilities supervisor, I realised I had an aptitude for process safety and retrained to get my NEBOSH General Certificate and similar qualifications so that I could focus on QHSE. I then got the chance to be a QHSE Consultant and, for over 6 years, I was given lots of opportunities to upskill as a lead auditor to various standards and work in a lot of different industries. However, as my previous role became more focused on operations, I decided to change back to a more QHSE-focused career, but with just one company, so I could better contribute to a maturing QHSE system and a company’s safety culture.
What does your job role involve?
My role involves assessing and controlling risks and liaising with interested parties such as safety representatives and external auditors to help maintain a safe working environment and to help maintain our various ISO certifications and inspection accreditation.
What is the most exciting part of your job/what are you looking forward to in your new role?
In this new role, I am looking forward to occasionally going back offshore and visiting clients’ sites so I can get to know our work environments, colleagues and clients better.
What accomplishment have you made in your career so far that you are proud of?
As a consultant, I was able to set up new and bespoke management systems and get them certified for a lot of different companies in various industries. In earlier roles, I helped develop an online health surveillance portal that significantly increased the quality and quantity of health surveillance data being captured from saturation divers, and I was also involved in converting a casing tong to be environmentally friendly and remotely controlling it in a subsea well abandonment operation that was the first of its kind.
Who inspires you and why?
I am inspired by business leadership experts like Simon Sinek, who promote ideas such as emphasising the “Why” behind a business and its actions. Knowing and advocating “why” a control is in place and not just what the control is, is an important part of behavioural safety and improving safety culture.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I enjoy spending time with my two boys and going for walks with my dog. I also enjoy relaxing with a book or drinking craft beer when I get the chance.
Welcome to the team, Lee. We’re thrilled to have you on board!
