The closer an industrial company is to supplying consumers with products, the further downstream it is said to be in the industry. Downstream operations in oil and gas terms are processes that occur after the production phase to the point of sale. Companies engaged in the downstream process include liquified natural gas plants, oil refineries, petroleum product distributors, petrochemical plants, natural gas distributors, and retail outlets.
Downstream Oil & Gas
RAIS’ downstream team includes highly specialised, technically experienced management staff supported by high-performing, multi-skilled site-based teams. Our team is armed with the latest technology, proprietary inspection tools and cutting-edge software solutions. We consistently strive for excellence through our commitment to innovation, having the best people and putting our clients first.
LIQUIFIED NATURAL GAS (LNG) Terminals
The United Kingdom has several liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals. LNG terminals play a crucial role in receiving, storing, and regasifying liquefied natural gas before it is distributed into the natural gas pipeline network.
LNG facilities in the UK include Grain LNG, South Hook LNG, Dragon LNG and Teesside GasPort (TPG) FSRU.

PIPELINES
Sonomatic has a long history of providing specialist inspections that deliver quality data on pipeline conditions. Our approach is to provide data and analysis that maximises the value of the inspection to the client. We can deliver our pipeline inspection services both topside and subsea.
Pipelines are key assets for operator companies and continued pipeline integrity underlies successful business performance. They are essential to oil and gas production and failures or unplanned downtime can have a major impact on company revenues. Failures can also have severe pipeline safety and/or environmental damage consequences.
Sonomatic RAIS assists operators by providing a range of pipeline inspections and integrity services including innovative statistical analysis methods that ensure decision-making is aligned with the real condition of pipelines. These methods offer a significantly more representative view of pipeline condition and remaining life than traditional methods of data analysis and application of inspection data in pipeline inspection integrity assessments.
The application of Sonomatic RAIS’ analysis methods leads to major benefits for oil and gas pipeline operators.

STORAGE TERMINALS
Storage terminals in the UK are vital for ensuring energy security, providing a buffer against supply disruptions, managing seasonal fluctuations in demand, responding to emergencies, enhancing market flexibility, supporting the transition to renewable energy, and ensuring the reliability of the overall energy infrastructure. These terminals play a crucial role in maintaining a stable and resilient energy supply for the country.
An oil terminal is an industrial facility designed for the storage of oil, petroleum, and petrochemical products. It serves as a crucial hub for receiving, storing, and distributing these commodities, ensuring a steady supply to meet market demands while providing flexibility in response to changes in production, consumption, and market conditions.

REFINERIES
Petroleum refineries convert crude oil and other liquids into many petroleum products that people use every day. To refine the crude oil a three-step process involving separation, conversion and treatment occurs through complex processes. The UK has six refineries currently, one located in Scotland in Grangemouth and five located in England: Fawley in Southampton, Ellesmere in Chesire, North Lincolnshire and North Killingholme in North Lincolnshire.
Many people don’t realise the broad use of petroleum products in our everyday lives including surprising items like deodorant, lipsticks, anaesthetics, shampoo and even clothes.
